Field Day 2011 Report

We would like to extend our thanks to all of the Hams and others in the community who joined with us for an exciting day of fun.  We extend a special thanks to Mayor Mills who stopped by for a hour and made his own contacts on the air with the help of some of our experienced hams.

We also were priveleged to have several opportunities to get some youngsters on the radio for their first radio contacts.  Each one was thrilled as they marked the map with their first contact.  The smiles where as big as some of their contact distances.  Can you imagine North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and others as your first?

In all, we had apprx. 140 contacts around the US and Canada.  KC1F, Lance, thought he had reeled in the longest contact of the day when he finally pulled in a contact from St. Tomas Amateur Radio Club in the Virgin Islands.  Those thoughts were only shortly celebrated as Joel, KE7TGI and Gregg, W7GEM dialed in a contact a few 100 miles south of Moscow...Yes, the Russian Federation.

What a day.  To those who helped pull this together, we say thank you.  Joel, KE7TGI led a very good Field Day committee.  Joel, to you as committe chairman and your committe, we say THANK YOU.  If you were not able to attend field day this year, mark it down for next year.  Plans are already in the works for our particiapation next year on the 4th Saturday in June.... June 23rd, 2012.

With the permission of KE7WYS, we have posted some of his pictures of the event below.
